The Android version of Gmail provides nearly identical functionality to the web interface. You may handle numerous inboxes, mute or snooze an email thread, label emails, and more. But the app has a significant flaw. On the Gmail website, choosing all emails is simple, however this feature is missing from the mobile app. Therefore, you must manually choose all of the emails on the current page if you want to archive or mark them as read. The Android app for Gmail appears to be getting a Select all feature from Google at last.
The Select all button was discovered by leaker @AssembleDebug in the most recent Gmail 2023.08.20.561750975.Release. As soon as you tap one email on the app, the option will become available. The emails can then be archived, muted, snoozed, marked as read or unread, and more.
The maximum number of emails Gmail will fetch from its servers in one request is 50. In your inbox, the first 50 emails will be highlighted when you hit Select all. To choose 50 more discussions, simply tap the button once more. When Gmail has locally cached the emails, selecting all will highlight every one of them, even if there are more than 50. All 100+ highlighted emails will be cleared if you click the Deselect all button.
Despite this restriction, the inclusion of a Select all option in the Gmail mobile app would greatly simplify bulk operations, especially if you get a lot of emails.
When the new Select all option will be available in Gmail is unclear. But the fact that Google is still working on include the button in the Gmail mobile app after all these years is at least encouraging, and hopefully it will launch as soon as possible. And if you can’t wait, think about switching to one of the top Android email apps in the interim.
