Today, Google launched its AI mode, a search engine that functions like a Q&A session, to Indian users. According to the firm, customers must choose to use this feature through Search Labs as it is currently in the experimental stage.
After opting in, users are able to ask questions in English. Google made no mention of whether or not it intends to support local languages or when that may happen.
Complex, multi-part queries like “My kids are 4 and 7 and have lots of energy” can be searched for by users. Without requiring a lot of room or pricey toys, offer inventive methods to get children moving and active indoors, particularly on hot days. Users can also refine findings by asking follow-up questions.
Earlier this year, Google began testing AI mode with its premium members in the United States. Following its Google IO event, the business began implementing the feature widely for all users in the United States. The business has since incorporated a shopping function, voice and picture search capabilities, and advertisements.
Given that voice is a prominent search option in India, the business stated that both voice and picture search functionalities are supported for consumers in that country. It further stated that a customized version of Gemini 2.5 powers the AI mode. Additionally, the company observed that early AI mode testers are posing two to three times lengthier queries.
India is one of Google’s largest markets, with over 870 million internet users. Additionally, it serves as a testing ground for the business to see how its goods are used by multilingual users.
Even while Google currently dominates the search market, more people are utilizing chat-based AI products like Perplexity and ChatGPT in their daily lives. Google wants consumers who prefer that type of interface to use its own product when it’s in AI mode.
