Alexa Carlin- The Barrier Buster for Female Entrepreneurs

Alexa Carlin is no stranger to overcoming barriers put in her path. Through personal hardships and the unique challenges of being an entrepreneur, Alexa has used her knowledge, skills, and support system to take the negatives and turn them into overwhelming positives.

From a young age, Alexa was dedicated to achieving all of her wildest ambitions. At the age of 17, she started her first business- a jewelry design company that worked for an LA-based fashion company. The fact that a 17 year old started a business is certainly intriguing, but that’s not the most impressive part: Alexa’s company had a philanthropic component built in! For every sale she made, she donated part of the proceeds to noble causes such as the American Cancer Society and OmniPeace.

Alexa has a passion for helping others, which is evident through all the work she’s done throughout her life. During her college years, she switched gears from jewelry and found another passion that allowed her to help others: blogging. It was during this time that Alexa started her blog, Hello Perfect , with the aim of instilling confidence in young girls and women.

However, towards the end of her college career, the biggest personal obstacle Alexa has ever faced came barreling down on her. In January of 2013, just four months before graduation, Alexa went into septic shock and was given a 1% chance of survival. Alexa spent 6 days in a medically-induced coma trying desperately to work with the medicines to heal herself.

As Alexa has proved time and again throughout her life, she is a fighter and fight this illness she would. She pulled through and was discharged from the hospital after 10 days. This experience left her with post-traumatic stress, causing a battle with depression and anxiety shortly after her experience, and an autoimmune disease as a side effect of the antibiotics she was given that she will battle with for the rest of her life.Instead of letting this awful circumstance get the best of her, Alexa pushed herself to heal and decided to share her story with others. Through her public speaking, Alexa has been able to share her message across the nation and garner the support of a strong community.

Soon after, Alexa took this experience and created what she wished she’d had at the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey- a community of powerhouse female entrepreneurs who all value collaboration over competition. At 5 years old, Women Empower X has gained a strong community of over 15k on Instagram and 6k on Facebook and has been across the U.S. with its in-person events.

By bringing this community together, Alexa is breaking down the barriers to knowledge, experience, and friendship that often plague the community of entrepreneurship. Now, she’s breaking down this barrier even further through the WEX Inner Circle Membership, which offers trainings, monthly coaching, and a group of passionate female entrepreneurs dedicated to keeping one another accountable until they all reach the top. Alexa Carlin serves as a shining example to all of us that no matter what obstacles life throws your way, you can stand up and overcome them in spades.
