Amazon Contributes an Additional $2.75 Billion to The AI Startup Anthropic

Amazon invested an additional $2.75 billion in Anthropic on Wednesday, increasing its total investment in the company’s AI technology to $4 billion. This is the company’s largest outside venture investment to date.

According to a statement from Amazon, users globally will have access to the most cutting-edge generative artificial intelligence technology thanks to their strategic cooperation agreement with Anthropic.

“We have a notable history with Anthropic, helping organizations of all sizes around the world to deploy advanced generative artificial intelligence applications across their organizations,” said Dr. Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of data and artificial intelligence at Amazon Web Services, in a statement.

Generic artificial intelligence, according to Sivasubramanian, “is poised to be the most transformational technology of our time.”

Anthropic is primarily employing AWS, according to Amazon, “for mission critical workloads, including safety research and future foundation model development.”

As part of the partnership, Anthropic will develop, train, and implement future AI models using Amazon’s AWS Titanium and Inferentia chips.

In September 2023, Amazon declared that it will spend $4 billion in Anthropic for a minority ownership stake and that it would also provide development support for Anthropic.
