Apple Considers Gemini for iPhone AI as OpenAI Contract Nears

Some new AI features on the iPhone are anticipated to be powered by a third party, and Google Gemini is purportedly one of the contenders. However, it appears that the contract with OpenAI is almost ready, even though it is still open.

Apple and OpenAI have “closed in on an agreement” for iOS 18 to include ChatGPT functionalities on the iPhone. Although it’s unclear currently how ChatGPT will be used within iOS, the agreement isn’t set in stone, according to Bloomberg.

A deal involving AI between Apple and Google is reportedly still on the table.

According to a March story, Apple was thinking about partnering with Google to deploy Gemini to power AI features within iOS. There were rumors circulating at the time that Apple was considering Gemini for cloud-based image and text production.

The two corporations are reportedly still in talks, but no agreement has been reached.

At WWDC, Apple is anticipated to reveal iOS 18 and its AI capabilities. That is slated for June 10, which is around one month after Google’s own I/O developer conference begins on May 14. Today, a story surfaced that Apple intends to integrate generative AI into Siri.
