MacRumors reports that the A17 Bionic chip that will initially be used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max later this year will fundamentally differ from a version of the same chip set that will be produced in 2024. This is the rumor that is based on the information provided by the source.

It is anticipated that the A17 Bionic will be the first chip produced by the tech giant using a fabrication process of 3 nanometers. This process promises significant enhancements in both efficiency and performance over the 5 nanometer process that was utilized for the A14, A15, and A16 chips.

TSMC’s N3B technology is expected to be used to manufacture the A17 Bionic chip initially; however, Apple plans to switch to N3E in 2024.

This move is supposed to be an expense cutting methodology that could come to the detriment of decreased effectiveness.

“In collaboration with Apple, TSMC developed the initial 3nm node known as N3B. On the other hand, “the majority of other TSMC clients will use N3E, which is the simpler and more accessible node,” according to the report.

The A17 chip, which is expected to be used in the iPhone 15, may focus more on improving battery life than processing power, according to earlier reports.
