Google Launches AI-Powered Information Agents That Monitor the Web on Users’ Behalf
Google has begun rolling out a new AI-driven feature called Information Agents, marking another major step in the company’s transition toward agent-based search experiences. The feature, currently available to select premium subscribers, allows Google’s AI to continuously monitor the internet and deliver personalized updates based on topics users care about.
The rollout follows Google’s broader AI strategy unveiled during Google I/O 2026, where the company introduced the concept of intelligent search agents capable of performing tasks in the background rather than simply responding to one-time search queries.
Search That Works Even When You’re Not Searching
Traditional search engines require users to actively enter queries whenever they need information. Google’s new Information Agents take a different approach.
Instead of repeatedly searching for updates, users can instruct AI Mode to keep track of specific topics, events, products, or opportunities. Once activated, the agent continuously scans information sources across the web and alerts users when relevant developments occur. According to Google’s rollout details, these agents can monitor news articles, blogs, social content, financial information, sports updates, and shopping-related changes.
For example, a user looking for a new apartment could ask the system to monitor listings that match specific requirements. When a suitable property appears, the agent can notify the user automatically. Similarly, sports fans can receive alerts whenever favorite athletes announce new sponsorships, collaborations, or product launches.

The introduction of Information Agents aligns with Google’s broader push toward what executives have described as an “agentic” future for artificial intelligence. Recent announcements across Google’s ecosystem have focused on AI systems that can perform ongoing tasks, make decisions, and proactively assist users rather than merely answering questions.
At Google I/O 2026, the company highlighted several agent-focused initiatives, including Gemini Spark and enhanced AI-powered search experiences. Information Agents represent one of the first practical implementations of that vision within Google Search.

How Users Can Access the Feature
The new capability is currently being made available through Google AI Mode for AI Ultra subscribers. Users can activate the feature by entering prompts such as “keep me updated on” or “alert me when” followed by a specific topic or request. Once configured, the AI agent begins monitoring relevant information sources and generates updates when notable changes occur.
Google says the feature supports all AI Mode languages and markets where the service is currently available.
