Google Launches New Program to Help AI Startups
Google said Monday that its AI Futures Fund would be launched, a new program designed to invest in firms that use the newest AI capabilities from Google DeepMind, the company’s AI research and development center.
The fund will help firms at different phases, from seed to late stage, and with different amounts of support. Google Cloud credits, the chance to work with Google specialists from DeepMind and Google Labs, and early access to Google AI models are all included in this. Google might also invest directly in certain firms.
Flexibility and the Investment Approach
The AI Futures Fund functions on a rolling basis, in contrast to conventional funds that use a cohort paradigm. Google will consider opportunities as they present themselves, and there is no set application timeframe. Although no precise fund size or check amounts have been revealed, the fund’s representative said that a company may receive an investment if it supports the fund’s mission. Although there will be flexibility for later-stage prospects as well, investments will normally target early to mid-stage businesses.
There are already a few success stories from the AI Futures Fund. The program has included startups such as webtoon app Toonsutra and meme-making site Viggle. These businesses have expanded their AI-driven products thanks to the fund’s resources and assistance.
Applications for the program are open to startups as of May 12.
Google’s Greater Dedication to AI Innovation and Talent
Google has invested heavily in the advancement of artificial intelligence in recent months. Google.org, the company’s charity arm, pledged $20 million to academics and researchers in the field of artificial intelligence in November. Google CEO Sundar Pichai created a $120 million Global AI Opportunity Fund in September to support AI training and education globally. In order to support organizations creating AI technologies, Google.org also started a $20 million generative AI accelerator program.
Google runs the Google for Startups Founders Fund in addition to the AI Futures Fund, which helps entrepreneurs in a range of sectors, including AI. According to a Google representative, the fund will start funding AI-focused firms in the United States this year; further information will be provided later.
