Google to Phase Out Pixel Studio App

Google to Phase Out Pixel Studio App

Google has started phasing out its Pixel Studio app, which was originally launched in 2024 alongside the Pixel 9, Screenshots, and Weather apps. As the company expands its image generation tools across other platforms and services, Pixel Studio is gradually being discontinued.

A recent update for Pixel Studio on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series marks the beginning of this transition. The refreshed image editor no longer includes generative AI features such as prompt-based editing, sticker creation, or object removal.

Instead, the app now focuses on basic editing functions like cropping, drawing, highlighting, and adding text. This editor, introduced last year as a replacement for Markup, features a Material 3 Expressive design.

While the basic editing tools will remain available for now, Google plans to remove prompt-driven image generation and the sticker creator entirely in the future. The company has confirmed that users will eventually be redirected to Nano Banana within the Gemini app for AI-powered image creation. Google will also provide an easy export option for users to save their existing creations during this transition.

The phase-out will happen gradually, and all current Pixel Studio-powered integrations will continue to function as expected on supported devices during this period.

Moving forward, Google is prioritizing image generation tools such as Remix in Google Messages and its expanding suite of generative AI features within Google Photos. Additionally, Nano Banana 2 was recently introduced in the Gemini app.

Pixel Studio currently runs on Imagen 4, but its discontinuation suggests that the app may not have gained significant traction among Pixel users since its launch.
