Instagram Gets Business Chat Transparency Labels from Meta

Building on a similar approach launched in Messenger last August, Meta is increasing openness on Instagram by implementing corporate chat labels. The purpose of this new tool is to give users more precise information about their interactions with businesses on the site.

Going forward, a label labeled “Business Chat” will appear at the top of the chat window in Instagram interactions pertaining to business. A new shortcut called “Business Chats and Your Privacy” will also be accessible, providing users with comprehensive details about how their communications with companies are handled.

Meta has made it clear that corporate talks on Instagram will not have the same level of privacy as personal chats on Messenger, which will now be encrypted from beginning to end. Businesses and Meta may receive information from these discussions for marketing and ad targeting purposes.

To make sure users are aware of the privacy implications of their interactions, the platform has confirmed that these new labels are currently being applied to all direct message exchanges involving businesses.
