Jose Quintana, Los Angeles Angels consent to a 1-year contract, source says

The Los Angeles Angels, urgent to add beginning pitching, consented to a one-year, $8 million agreement with veteran left-hander Jose Quintana on Tuesday, a source affirmed to ESPN.

Quintana, who previously pitched under current Angels manager Joe Maddon while with the Chicago Cubs, was restricted to just 10 innings in 2020 generally in light of thumb surgery. Before that, the 31-year-old averaged 32 beginnings from 2013 to 2019, assembling a 3.72 ERA with a 3.23 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Quintana joins a rotation that incorporates Andrew Heaney, Dylan Bundy, Griffin Canning and conceivably Shohei Ohtani, opening in somewhere close to the top.

Quintana remains as the fifth one-year expansion made by first-year general manager Perry Minasian, following shortstop Jose Iglesias, closer Raisel Iglesias, catcher Kurt Suzuki and lefty reliever Alex Claudio. They’ll consolidate to make $23.25 million in 2021.

The Athletic originally detailed the contract.
