OpenAI Purchases Startup Developing ‘Sky,’ an AI-Powered Mac Interface
Software Applications Incorporated, a 12-person business that developed Sky, an AI-powered Apple computer interface, has been bought by OpenAI. The deal’s financial conditions were not made public.
With Sky, Mac users may utilize natural language to communicate with their computers for tasks like scheduling, writing, coding, and planning. Additionally, it recognizes on-screen material to carry out contextual activities and connects with native programs.
According to Nick Turley, Head of ChatGPT at OpenAI, the acquisition advances OpenAI’s objective of seamlessly integrating AI into common tools at the system level.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was one of the investors in Software Applications, which was founded in 2023 and revealed Sky in May after raising $6.5 million in early money.
After acquiring Statsig for $1.1 billion in September and Jony Ive’s AI hardware startup io for $6 billion in May, OpenAI has been on a recent acquisition frenzy. Turley and Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, spearheaded the transaction.
